Obtaining major appliances in 2021 has been a real challenge. We’re in the midst of a perfect storm created by increased demand—everyone spending more time at home taking on home improvement projects like kitchen renovations—and a struggling global supply chain caused by decreased workforce and port capacity constraints.
Nonetheless, our labs have continued to test refrigerators, dishwashers, ranges, and laundry units. Regardless of delays, if you need a fridge or a washing machine, we want to help you find top-quality products that can handle everyday use.
Here are our favorite home appliances, or jump to all the 2021 Best of Year awards.

The Bosch SHPM88Z75N is one of the reasons that when you type “best dishwasher” into Google, the results return with Bosch after Bosch after Bosch. This dishwasher is a part of the 800 series, a group that contains the best dishwashers we’ve ever tested. Just like other 800 models, the SHPM88Z75N provides excellent cleaning prowess, well-machined racks, and features that only Bosch can provide—the ability to dry plastics well. Read the full review.
The best thing about the Beko DUT25401X is that it pairs an excellent, energy-efficient performance with an incredibly low price tag, giving you a pretty powerful bang for your buck. Its Normal cycle hit above average with its stain removal prowess, and the Heavy cycle knocked out food stains like Ali in the ring with a near perfect score. It also dries dishes like a champ at the end of the Normal cycle, with every plate and glass coming out bone dry. Read the full review.
The Frigidaire Gallery FG4H2272UF has it all: beauty, brawn, and value. As a French-door model, it is quite affordable while still offering superior storage space and nifty features like an adjustable deli drawer that can also double as a wine chiller or freezer. The best refrigerator we’ve tested, the FG4H2272UF showed us it’s a workhorse as well, boasting above-average performance in keeping a consistent temperature and humidity retention. If you’re in the market for an entry-level, counter-depth fridge, there are are fewer options better than the Haier HA10TG21SS top-freezer. This is a budget buy that offers an impressive performance for your initial investment. While its smaller stature means less storage space compared to a full-size model, it has impressive temperature performance and adjustable-height, spill-capturing shelves—two rare features to see in a fridge at this price point. Do you love the look and functionality of French-door refrigerators, but don’t have the space to actually fit one in your kitchen? We have just the fridge for you. The Haier HRF15N3AGS is considerably narrower and shallower than most French-door fridges, and it’s fairly bare-bones. Its cooling performance is top-notch, though, and it easily maintained fridge and freezer temperatures of 37°F and 0°F throughout our week of testing. If you don’t need a lot of extra features and want to make the most of a relatively small kitchen, the compact Haier HRF15N3AGS French-door fridge is a great pick. Read the full review.
If you want a fridge that is capable of both high-quality food preservation and of being a conversation starter, look no further than the LG LSXS26366S three-door, side-by-side refrigerator. With a press of a button, you can access the door-in-door storage on the upper right side of the fridge, which allows you to easily grab the items you need frequently without disrupting the cooling of the rest of the fridge. The 30-inch, five-burner Samsung NX58K9500WG impresses with its premium look and performance that was as good or better than the best gas ranges we’ve ever tested. Even though we first tested it in 2019, it still tops our list because it offers flexible cooking on notched cast-iron grates and a stellar oven experience with its true convection heating system. It also preheats fast and is packed with useful features, like a warming drawer for proving bread, pre-heating plates, or keeping side dishes warm. Read the full review.
The Whirlpool WGE745C0FS electric range is a knockout across the board. It passed every test we threw at it with flying colors, from boiling water to baking pizza. Its ability to multitask sets it apart from other ranges, in particular having the option to bake two dishes at different temperatures simultaneously and fit at least four pots on the cooktop at once. It’s chock-full of features, and True Convection mode will produce deliciously crispy foods akin to an air fryer. It’s available in stainless steel, black, and white finishes, so it’s designed to match most kitchens. Regardless of the finish, we like the look of this range in particular because of the ultra-sleek smooth cooktop. There’s a reason it’s the best electric range we’ve tested. Read the full review.
The single-oven Frigidaire FGIH3047VF range is the best induction range we’ve tested thanks to its quick boil times, great temperature control, and useful settings. It covers all your basic cooking needs, as well as some not-so-basic ones—special features, like true convection and air fry, add something extra. Read the full review.
The Electrolux EFLS627UTT front-load washer stands as one of the best front-load washers on the market. One reason? It is the world’s first washer to have a special place for detergent pods in the drawer, allowing for even distribution of soap. However, this washer also is powerfully competent at removing stains and efficient cycles; it managed to do a solid stain-removal job in both the 46-minute-long Normal cycle as well as a quick 15-minute-long wash time. Read the full review.
If you’re looking for a modern top-load washer, the GE GTW720BSNWS fits the bill. With its Tide Pod dispenser, a stain removal guide, and a Sanitize with Oxi cycle, this washer is ready to tackle any laundry load. Despite its many customization options (including the coveted Deep Rinse option, which adds more water to each load), the interface is streamlined and easy to use. Read the full review.
The Maytag MED7230HW is our current best dryer because it has all the features you want and some you didn’t know you needed—like letting you know when you need to adjust a load. It boasts simple controls, a solid drying performance, and decent smart features. Performance is strong, especially for its price point. Its Regular cycle finished faster than the average dryer—64 minutes versus 71—and got our test load of laundry 100% dry each time. Read the full review.
If you’re in the market for a compact washer, but don’t want to sacrifice cleaning quality, the Miele W1 WXR860WCS is one of the best options available. It offers just as much cleaning power as an average full-size washer, but manages it from within a very compact frame. We also loved its effective spin cycle, which got rid of more water than many of its standard-sized competitors. This will save your dryer a lot of work, and also save you money on your utility bill. If you want a washer that is easy to use, provides a good clean, and has a pole agitator, the Whirlpool WTW8127LC top-loader is a solid choice. It has a removable agitator for when you need extra space or a more gentle wash cycle, and it also comes with a built-in pretreating station—a faucet that can dispense hot and cold water and a specialized brush for scrubbing stubborn stains. Finally, instead of having vague cycle names, the WTW8127LC has the “What to Wash / How to Wash” system. Knowing exactly what your washer is doing to your clothes helps cut down on confusion and frustration when it comes to laundry day. Read the full review.
With a steam cycle, a sanitizing wash, and a large 5.2-cubic-foot capacity, the giant LG WM9000HVA has a unique, sleek look that will elevate any laundry room. Despite knowing that its 29-inch width is 2 inches wider than most other washers, we were impressed by how much this front-load washer could fit—and how well it cleaned. The Heavy cycle removed about 81% of the stains in our test, which makes it one of the highest performing washers we’ve ever tested when it comes to stain removal. Read the full review.
